Gov’t to build 2,000 housing units for Armed Forces – CDS

The Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has announced that the government is rolling out 2,000 housing units to address accommodation challenges within the Armed Forces nationwide.
Speaking at the Ghana Armed Forces’ end-of-year non-denominational religious parade at Burma Camp on Sunday, December 14, 2025, held under the theme “Kept by the Power of God,” Lt Gen Agyapong disclosed that about 700 of the housing units will be constructed in Accra to help ease the current accommodation deficit.
“Next year, we will see a massive improvement in our accommodation situation. The government has sanctioned arrangements that will see the rollout of over 2,000 housing units across all garrisons. And in Accra, we are expecting about 700 housing units in 5 garrisons.
“Over the next five years, if all goes as planned, we are expecting an additional 8,000 housing units. This arrangement is to ensure that our gallant personnel have decent places of abode,” he said.
He further added that plans are underway to retool the security service through the procurement of long-haul jets and patrol boats.
“His Excellency the President has also sanctioned a retooling package that will see major platforms added to our stock. We will see additional air platforms in the form of helicopters and long-haul jets. We will see offshore patrol boats that are also being arranged for.
“For the Army, we will receive additional Armoured Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers, to be accompanied by other military accoutrements, namely weapons, vehicles, defence stores, protective gear, and most importantly, ammunition,” he stated.
He also addressed the issue of misinformation in the public, suggesting that the Ghanaian government does not pay UN Peacekeepers.
This follows what he describes as misinformation from some media outlets and blogs suggesting meagre payment of allowances to UN peacekeepers from the government.
“With regards to some viral video that has been running around the media space, alleging that the government of Ghana receives so much money for peacekeeping, and it gives so little. These are very far from facts. Let’s make use of our knowledge, let’s make use of our discerning nature, and don’t let us fall for some of this misinformation,” he added.
