The MTN Ghana Foundation has on Saturday, 26 June 2021, hand over a 600 capacity ultra modern girls dormitory to the Tamale Senior high school in the Northern Region.
The gesture which forms part of the foundation’s corporate social responsibility, will go to address the infrastructure issues faced by the school.
The new facility will help the school which was hitherto accommodating a total of 1,200 girls within a 600 bed capacity dormitory in the past, to accommodate them in a less crowded setting.
In an interview with FiilaNews, the Chief Corporate Services Officer at MTN foundation, Mr. Samuel Koranteng noted that the facility has an adjoining two bedroom apartment to accommodate the house mistress, with washrooms befitting enough to serve the girl child.
The facility which costs a total of GHC 2.8million to provide, was commissioned by the Vice President of the Republic who is an old student of the said school.
Mr. Koranteng added that since the inception of the foundation, 87 projects can be credited to their name indicating that more is yet to be completed.
On his part Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia thanked the foundation for the gesture done his former school, noting that it will help create a conducive atmosphere for the beneficiary students.
He thus called on school management to implore a proper maintenance culture to help benefit several generations to come.
Meanwhile old students and students alike, thronged Tamasco on Saturday as the school lunched its 70th anniversary since its establishment.
As part of the anniversary celebration, a new house has been added to the already existing once and named after Vice President Dr. Bawumia.
Bawumia House is a symbol of the school’s appreciation to the Vice President for his enormous contribution to the development of his alma-mater.
The event had in attendance the Veep Dr. Mahammadu Bawumia, Dr. Mohammed Amin Anta deputy minister for energy, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, Northern Regional Minister among several dignitaries.
