GNAT condemns attack on teachers by candidates over poor WASSCE results

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has strongly condemned an attack on some teachers by WASSCE candidates at Kade in the Eastern Region.
According to the Association, the incident occurred at night after the release of the WASSCE results, when some candidates claimed the teachers contributed to their failure by refusing to allow examination malpractices.
GNAT’s General Secretary, Thomas Tanko Musah, disclosed the details in an exclusive interview with Labour Affairs Correspondent, Daniel Opoku. He urged teachers to prioritise their safety whenever they sense danger.
“Teachers, wherever you are, if your life is threatened you can leave. Just send a message and leave. The Labour Law provides for that, and we call on our members to vacate the premises if they consider their lives to be in danger,” he said.
Mr. Musah also cautioned the Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Nabla, to stop making allegations against teachers following the mass failure of some students in the WASSCE.
“People like Janet Nabla should be careful with their utterances and stop attacking teachers. Next time, we will respond to you appropriately because it is wrong to incite the public against teachers. If you don’t have anything to say, keep quiet and stop attacking teachers,” he warned.
