The families of the four Takoradi girls, who police say are dead, are calling for the head of three security chiefs, citing their failure to rescue the girls from suspected kidnappers.
They want the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah; the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah and the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, to step down.
Speaking through their Spokesperson, Michael Grant Hayford, the families said the three security chiefs do not deserve to carry on with their offices.
The call for the removal of the security top officials follows the confirmation by a police-sponsored DNA test that some bones found at the home of one of the key suspect show they girls were dead.
The news was relayed to the media by acting Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, at a press briefing in Accra.
The girls — Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21, Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, 18; Ruth Love Quayson 18, and Ruth Abeka – were victims of a kidnapping and murdering syndicate in the Takoradi area, police have said.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues on Monday, September 16, Mr Hayford said: “If they don’t resign, the court issue can never continue and we will do boot-for-boot and all-die-be-die.”
“We could have beaten the suspects to death when they were arrested but we trusted the security to help us. We won’t do any further test but we will deal with the national security because they didn’t treat us well,” he told host, Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom.
Meanwhile, a member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Helen Adwoa Ntoso, speaking on the same show also said “the security capo who came to inform us they knew where the girls were must resign,” referring to press conference addressed by the CID boss.
Helen Ntoso said the Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah has thrown dust in the eyes of the family and the entire nation.
She further called on the security to apologise to the state for the false hopes they gave to Ghanaians.
The Krachi West MP advanced her disappointment on the security agencies for failing to inform the Defence and Interior Committee about the demise of the girls before publishing it.
Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, Seth Kwame Acheampong, averred, the committee will soon embark on a tour to commiserate with families of the deceased girls.
