GFA empowers National Juvenile Committee to screen players in major youth football integrity drive

The Ghana Football Association has officially entrusted its National Juvenile Committee (NJC) with the responsibility of screening all players participating in national youth tournaments, in a decisive move under the FA’s Power to the Youth strategy to strengthen grassroots football and safeguard the integrity of youth competitions.

The decision was formalised at the Executive Council meeting held in January 2026, attended by all ten Regional Football Association chairmen.

The mandate authorises the NJC to verify player eligibility, ensure proper documentation and enforce standardised registration procedures across all age-grade competitions nationwide.

Led by Chairman JoeSalam Abubakar, the committee will implement robust screening mechanisms designed to enhance transparency, fairness and accountability.

The measures will help prevent irregularities while ensuring that only qualified players participate in official youth tournaments.

Beyond safeguarding competition integrity, the initiative forms part of a broader effort to professionalise youth football structures in Ghana. The FA aims to create a clear and reliable pathway for talented players to progress from regional tournaments to national teams and elite development programmes.
