Education Ministry audits free sanitary pads over quality concerns

The Ministry of Education has commissioned an audit into sanitary pads supplied in 2025 under the Free Sanitary Pads Programme.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu said the move follows concerns raised by the Consumer Protection Agency over the quality of some products distributed to schools.

He noted that he is currently reviewing the assessment to determine the next steps.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, February 11, he said, “I have asked a team of auditors to go round the schools and do an audit of the quality of some of the sanitary pads that were supplied. Because I have received concerns from the Consumer Protection Agency of Ghana on the poor quality of some of the sanitary pads we supplied last year [2025].

“We’re evaluating the report of the assessment. We want the companies to be mindful of the minimum standards so that they produce quality and not produce things that will embarrass the government and then students; there will be zero tolerance for poor sanitary pads,” he said.

Meanwhile, Softcare FM Manufacturing Limited, a producer of sanitary pads, donated 10,000 sanitary pads to the Ministry during the Minister’s visit to the company’s factory.

Mr. Iddrisu directed that the items be presented to Christian Methodist Senior High School, the nearest SHS to the facility, to support female students.
