NPP is a party of laws, Kodua Frimpong has stamped his authority by sacking Boaben Asamoa, others – MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is an organisation that is governed by laws hence going against those rules will attract sanctions, the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko has said.

He said when the leadership of the party fails to crack the whip when members go astray, it will serve as an incentive for others to misbehave.

To that end, he welcomed the sacking of former Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Yaw Boaben Asamoa, former General Secretary Nana Ohene Ntow, and former Madina Lawmaker Boniface Abubakar Saddique from the party.

Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Duke Mensah Opoku on Monday, November 20, he said “I think the decision of the General Secretary of the party is a step in the right direction.

“The NPP is a political party that is governed by rules, we expect and demand discipline from all the members, nobody is bigger than the party so if you go against the laid down rules and regulations as captured in our constitution the party has the power to activate those provisions to demand what is right because if it is not done it is going to motivate others to also continue on that tangent.

“This shows that the General Secretary is firm on his job, he is ensuring that discipline, law, and order are in the party.”

By throwing their support behind an independent candidate,  Alan Kyerematen,  the trio have forfeited their membership of the NPP, a statement issued by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said.

“The NPP entreats its members to remain true to their duties as per Article 3(5) of the party Constitution.

“We further call upon our members to bear in mind that the Party’s focus is to unite its ranks and rally the support of Ghanaians to make history by winning the 2024 general elections,” the statement said.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOVEMBER 20, 2023

FORFEITURE OF MEMBERSHIP PURSUANT TO THE PROVISION OF ARTICLE 3(9)(1) OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY CONSTITUTION

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of recent activities of Hopeson AdoryeYaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow and Boniface Abubakar Saddique which includes publicly endorsing the candidature of a person other than the duly elected Presidential Candidate of the Party; His Excellency Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

In spite of their flagrant breach of the Party’s Constitution particularly Articles 3(5)(A)(4) and 3(9)(1), the afore- named men still hold themselves out as members of the NPP.

For the avoidance of doubt, Article 3(5)(A)(4) of the NPP Constitution enjoins all members of the Party to”abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party”

Also, Article 3(9)(1) of the Constitution provides as follows:

“A Member of the Party, who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the Party, or who joins or declares his or her support for another Political Party, or for an independent candidate, when the Party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election, automatically forfeits his or her membership of the Party”.

In line with these constitutional provisions, it is the view of the NPP that Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique and Yaw Buaben Asamoa have AUTOMATICALLY FORFEITED their membership of the Party. They are, therefore, no longer members of the Party.

The NPP entreats its members to remain true to their duties as per Article 3(5) of the party Constitution. We further call upon our members to bear in mind that the Party’s focus is to unite its ranks and rally the support of Ghanaians to make history by winning the 2024 general elections.
