The leadership of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Wednesday, March 11, reportedly boycotted a meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC) over their ongoing strike action.
The commission had directed the striking group to suspend the industrial action and appear before it to address their concerns.
However, reports indicated that the leadership of the association failed to attend the scheduled meeting.
Speaking to Accra-based TV3 Ghana on Wednesday, March 11, the Executive Secretary of the NLC, Bernice Welbeck, said another meeting has been scheduled for March 18 to address the matter.
Dr. Welbeck explained that because the association did not show up and had continued with the strike, the commission could not proceed with the substantive issues raised by the workers.
“Because they didn’t appear and they are still on strike, you know, when a party is on strike or has instituted an industrial action, the substantive matter cannot be heard,” she said.
She added that the commission had already declared the strike illegal and had asked the association to call off the action immediately.
“The first one said it constituted an illegality if they embarked on it. Now, the declaration has been made, which is a kind of ruling, that the action that they’ve taken is illegal. And so we are moving step by step,” she said.
Dr. Welbeck indicated that the leadership of CLOGSAG had been asked to call off the strike and appear before the commission next week.
“So they’ve been asked to call it off immediately and appear next week, Wednesday, March 18, 2026,” she said.
