The project forms part of ongoing efforts by the Danish Children Fund to support education in Ghana and improve learning conditions for schoolchildren.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church, known for its strong commitment to education, identified critical infrastructure challenges at the school, which serves a large student population.

The previously existing classroom block had become dilapidated, negatively affecting teaching and learning.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the President of the North Ghana Mission of the SDA Church, Pastor George Kossi Ekao Amouzou, explained that the poor state of the building prompted an appeal for support from donors. He noted that the Danish Children Fund responded by funding the renovation and construction of the two-classroom facility.

The newly completed block has brought relief and excitement to teachers, pupils, and parents, as it is expected to significantly improve the teaching and learning environment.

The Deputy Director in charge of Planning at the Sagnarigu Municipal Education Office, Mr. Ayamba Abukari, described the facility as a major boost to education delivery.

He said the improved infrastructure would enhance teaching and learning outcomes and urged teachers to make the most of the new environment.

Regional Manager of the SDA Education Unit, Alberta Maccarthy Boakye, expressed appreciation to the Danish Children Fund and other partners for their continued support. She, however, noted that more infrastructure is needed and called on individuals and organizations to assist the school.

The Headteacher of Kalpohin SDA Basic School and Project Manager, Benjamin Yin, also expressed gratitude to the donors for funding the classroom block and providing about 70 desks.

He described the intervention as a dream come true but emphasized that the school still requires additional classrooms and furniture to meet growing demand.

He further called for proper maintenance of the facility by both teachers and students to ensure its longevity.
The PTA Chairman, Ibrahim Issahaku, commended the Danish Children Fund and school authorities for their intervention but stressed that the school continues to face infrastructure deficits due to the increasing student population.

The renovation marks a significant step toward improving access to quality education in the area, although stakeholders say more support is needed to address existing gaps.

Speaking at the event, the EU Ambassador Rune Skinnebach underscored the significance of the newly established inter-jurisdictional committee, describing it as a vital step toward improved coordination across the Greater Tamale area. He noted that while such initiatives may appear modest, they are essential in shaping sustainable cities and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

The Ambassador emphasized that urban challenges such as waste management, drainage, and transportation transcend administrative boundaries, making collaboration between neighboring assemblies crucial. He added that successful metropolitan areas around the world thrive on integrated planning and shared systems among districts.

He further explained that the joint committee is not intended to create additional bureaucracy but rather to serve as a practical mechanism for harmonizing services, improving efficiency, and delivering better development outcomes. The EU, he said, is supporting the initiative with technical assistance as well as funding for equipment and systems to promote a unified and sustainable urban environment.

The Sustainable Cities Project Phase One, funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France under the leadership of Ghana’s Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, is targeting six urban centers in Northern Ghana—Tamale, Damongo, Nalerigu, Bolgatanga, Yendi, and Wa—to enhance urban governance, planning systems, and service delivery through integrated and sustainable approaches.

Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, expressed optimism about the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward improving coordinated urban governance and service delivery in Greater Tamale. He commended the EU for its continued support in addressing development challenges in the region.

The Minister also acknowledged longstanding boundary and administrative disputes between the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly, which have led to tensions over the years. He, however, noted that the Sustainable Cities Project and the signing of the MOU present a pathway toward resolving these issues through dialogue and collaboration.

He explained that the agreement will establish joint coordinating committees to align planning processes and promote collective development efforts between the two assemblies.

The Mayor of Tamale also highlighted that the MOU marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation aimed at improving efficiency and ensuring sustainable governance. He stressed that the agreement provides a structured platform for joint planning and action without creating unnecessary administrative layers.

He further acknowledged the contributions of government institutions and development partners, particularly the European Union, in advancing local governance and development.

The signing of the MOU, he concluded, should not be seen as an end in itself but as the foundation for deeper collaboration to address shared urban challenges and promote inclusive and resilient growth in Greater Tamale.

Chef Faila, who gained national recognition following her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, described the festival as a platform to celebrate culture, identity, and unity through food. According to her, Tuo Zaafi is more than just a meal; it represents heritage and serves as a unifying symbol for the people of Northern Ghana.

She expressed concern over the growing preference for foreign dishes among young people, stressing the need to preserve and embrace indigenous foods. The festival, she noted, is designed to promote pride in traditional cuisine while inspiring the youth to reconnect with their roots.

Chef Faila further indicated that the initiative is expected to become an annual event, bringing together Northern Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora, while boosting tourism by showcasing the region’s culture, food, music, and lifestyle.

The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and forward-thinking. He emphasized that Tuo Zaafi embodies not only food but also the history, identity, and unity of the people.

He noted that the festival will help strengthen community bonds and promote cultural heritage, while also serving as a tool for development.

The Minister highlighted government’s commitment to leveraging culture to drive tourism and encouraged young people to explore economic opportunities in the culinary sector, including food innovation, agribusiness, and hospitality.

The Minister was accompanied by the Mayor of Tamale, Abubakari Adam Takoro, and the District Chief Executive for Tolon, Seidu Braimah.

In separate remarks, they commended the Executive Chef Faila Foundation for the initiative and reaffirmed their support for programmes that promote local culture and community development.

The event featured a variety of activities, including live cooking exhibitions, cultural performances, and displays of local agricultural produce, all aimed at celebrating the uniqueness of Ghanaian cuisine and fostering cultural exchange.

The University for Development Studies has spotlighted the critical role of guinea fowl production in Africa’s food security agenda, as Professor Abdul Rahman Ibn Iddriss delivered the university’s 23rd Professorial Inaugural Lecture.

The lecture, delivered under the theme “Nature’s Neglected Gift: Reproductive Insight into the Guinea Fowl and the Quest to Feed Africa,” was also significant as the first inaugural lecture from the School of Veterinary Sciences at the university.

In his presentation, Professor Abdul Rahman Ibn Iddriss traced his research journey and highlighted his contributions to livestock production, with particular focus on the guinea fowl , a bird widely reared in northern Ghana and across parts of Africa, but one that has received relatively limited scientific attention.

He expressed appreciation to the audience for their support and noted that his research is aimed at providing practical, science-based solutions to the challenges confronting farmers.

According to him, his work has largely focused on addressing constraints in guinea fowl reproduction and breeding, using research approaches that range from whole-animal studies to cellular and molecular techniques.

Professor Ibn Iddriss explained that although his academic training was initially rooted in sheep and goat research, his experience in commercial poultry production between 2002 and 2005 inspired a shift in focus.

He said that experience, coupled with the limited scientific data available on guinea fowl and the bird’s growing importance in the region, motivated him to dedicate his research to unlocking its production potential.

The professor stressed that a better understanding of the biology and reproductive systems of guinea fowl is essential to developing effective breeding and production strategies.

He said generating new scientific knowledge on the species would help tackle production challenges, improve output, and strengthen the bird’s contribution to household nutrition, livelihoods, and agricultural development.

The lecture formed part of the University for Development Studies’ continued commitment to advancing research and promoting academic scholarship that responds to the development needs of Ghana and the wider African continent.

World Vision Ghana has organized a National Market Actors Forum under its Everyone THRIVE Project, aimed at strengthening market systems and promoting inclusive economic growth.

The forum, held under the theme “Partnering for Prosperity: Strengthening Market Linkages for All,” brought together key stakeholders from government, the private sector, financial institutions, farmer organizations, development partners, and academia.

The Everyone Transforming Household Resilience in Vulnerable Environments (THRIVE) Project is an economic empowerment initiative designed to build resilient livelihoods, promote inclusive market systems, and ensure sustainable household incomes — particularly for smallholder farmers, women, youth, and vulnerable populations across Ghana.

The event provided a platform to promote strategic partnerships, share innovative ideas, and advance equitable market development. It also featured high-level policy dialogue and the presentation of practical recommendations to strengthen market systems.

A representative of World Vision Ghana, Joshua Baodu, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to improving livelihoods through the THRIVE initiative. He noted that child well-being is closely linked to household economic stability.

He disclosed that the program aims to support about 160,000 households to double their incomes, impacting over 400,000 people within three years through capacity building and strong partnerships.

Stakeholders were urged to support smallholder farmers through inclusive investments and enabling policies, with a call for concrete commitments to drive sustainable transformation and shared prosperity.

Launching the forum on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, Baba Ahmed Abdul Rahaman commended World Vision Ghana for organizing what he described as a timely and impactful initiative.

He emphasized that while agriculture remains central to the regional economy, its full potential is hindered by challenges such as poor market access, inadequate financing, weak infrastructure, and limited coordination among value chain actors.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among producers, processors, buyers, and financial institutions, adding that government remains committed to supporting inclusive market systems through improved policies, enhanced extension services, and better access to resources.

The keynote speaker, Evelyn Abakah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Commodity Exchange, highlighted the importance of partnerships in transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector.

She noted that farmers and SMEs continue to face challenges such as limited market access, price volatility, post-harvest losses, and inadequate financing.

According to her, prosperity can only be achieved through collaboration, structured systems, and mutual trust among stakeholders.

She revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2025 between World Vision Ghana, the Ghana Commodity Exchange, and partners is already yielding results under the Thrive 2030 agenda.

Through this collaboration, GCX is facilitating market linkages by providing warehousing, building farmer capacity, and enabling access to wider markets through its trading platform.

Early successes, she said, include the engagement of 99 farmer groups across multiple regions, commodity trade facilitation, and the development of training materials on post-harvest handling.

The forum concluded with a strong call for sustained partnerships and actionable commitments to drive agricultural transformation and position Northern Ghana as a hub for inclusive economic growth.

Mr. Mahama has strongly denied police claims that they were attacked by a mob, insisting that the allegations are untrue.

According to him, the incident has taken a serious toll on his health and disrupted his professional schedule. He revealed that he has been forced to cancel several international trips as a result.

The artist was scheduled to travel to the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and the Royal Academy of Arts in London to deliver lectures, before continuing to Helsinki, Milan, and Venice.

However, he indicated that the incident has made it impossible for him to honor these commitments.

Speaking at a press conference in Tamale on Monday, March 23, Mr. Mahama said he is considering legal action, stressing that the move goes beyond his personal experience.

“Certainly, we are considering legal action. It’s very important. It’s a no-brainer. We have to do it,” he stated.

He explained that his decision is driven by a broader concern for public safety.

“It’s not for me, but it’s actually for everyone else because if this could happen to me, as well-known as I am, then what about the people on the street?”

Mr. Mahama further disclosed that the injuries sustained have affected both his health and work.

“Currently, it has put my entire life on hold,” he added.

He also raised concerns about what he described as a pattern of abuse by the police unit, warning that such incidents could discourage young people from actively contributing to national development.

“Stonebwoy is NPP. He is Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko’s boy. He is Gyankroma Akufo-Addo’s buddy.” I am sure you heard some of these claims when the New Patriotic Party was in power? I heard them too but I didn’t read deeper meanings into them.

Many who bought into these claims were, therefore, gobsmacked by Stonebwoy’s remarks at the Black Stars World Cup Fundraiser at the Kempinski Hotel on March 21, 2026, where he suggested his song Jejereje contributed to the victory of the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 elections.

“When we talk about contributions, I believe that my contribution has been very significant in actually winning power for the NDC because everybody has heard ‘naano ee nakofa baaye o’. Mainly because I am somebody that believes in reset so per my own judgement, I made sure that that music was dropped within a moment when there was some ease in the system. Because it was so tensed and I dropped it in terms of contributions,” he said.

In the first place, I do not care about which political party Stonebwoy belongs to. My perception of him and how I react to his work would not change even if he openly declares his love for any political party.

However, his statement needs to be put under the microscopic lenses of critical thinking. Did his song Jejereje contribute “significantly” to the NDC’s victory? I do not think so. Did the song ease tension? That is if there was tension. Did it help entertain people? Very well so.

Political science research, including studies on Ghana’s electoral behaviour, consistently points to a hierarchy of factors that determine election outcomes. Candidate credibility, party identification, economic performance and campaign promises, among others rank highest. Campaign communication, including music, plays a role too, but largely as a reinforcing tool rather than a decisive one. While scientifically there are no specific figures to back how exactly individual songs influence voting patterns, political scientists agree that media and messaging tend to shape voter perception. This means the possibility of influence of campaign songs cannot be dismissed.

These songs have the tendency to influence votes, particularly when they carry clear, well-crafted messages that align with a party’s ideology. Such songs can simplify complex political ideas and connect emotionally with voters, when woven into beat and melody. The impact is even well-felt when the songs are deliberately commissioned or adopted as official campaign material, and when the composer is popular. In political marketing, this helps greatly in messaging. Campaign songs appeal to the cognitive theory of music appreciation where people don’t just vibe to the melody or instrumentation but most importantly feed on the words in the song.

Stonebwoy’s Jejereje, however, does not fall in this category. It is not a political campaign song in the sense of the word. Songs of this nature are largely generic and tend to mainly serve entertainment purposes. They do not carry the same persuasive weight as songs with explicit political messaging. For that reason, it would be misleading to suggest that Jejereje “significantly” contributed to bringing the NDC to power. Whatever role it played could not have been significant; it would be infinitesimal.

Note that the word “significant” is a big deal here. On a scale of 0 to 10, a “significant” contribution would suggest a level around 7 or 8, implying strong and measurable impact. That is difficult to sustain in the case of Jejereje.

Songs line Stonebwoy’s ‘Jejereje’ or King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ could mobilise, energise or even create cultural moments around campaigns, but they possibly would have 0.001% chance to contribute to electoral victory.

Mind you Jejereje was not only played at NDC rallies; it also featured on NPP campaign platforms. So if it contributed to the NDC’s victory because the NDC won power, it is logically sound to assert that it contributed to the NPP’s loss because they lost power? Because the obverse holds true with the power of music.

Another important part of Stonebwoy’s speech was the use of the NDC’s “reset” slogan. For some, it could be interpreted as a subtle signal to President John Dramani Mahama that, contrary to earlier perceptions of his proximity to the NPP, he may be ideologically aligned to his party.

Will this affect Stonebwoy should political power change hands?

Maybe this article is much ado about nothing; maybe Stonebwoy has a grand idea behind what he said. Maybe I am overemphasising the political correctness or otherwise of his words. However, this might come back to bite him hard if he doesn’t handle things well in future.

Already, some supporters of the NPP have expressed disappointment over his comment, which clearly shows some of them thought he was on their side.

That said, I honestly think Stonebwoy’s comment about ‘Jejereje’ significantly contributing to the National Democratic Congress’ win in 2024 elections is hyperbolic; it only entertained patrons like any other non-campaign song that was played during the campaign period.

Speaking at the presentation, Mohammad Shayawu noted that the initiative forms part of MTN Ghana’s annual Ramadan outreach, emphasizing the importance of the holy period as a time for spiritual reflection and renewal among Muslims. He explained that the company’s goal is not centered on the monetary value of the items, but rather on sharing in the joy and celebration with its Muslim customers and the broader community.

He added that the donation exercise is carried out across four key locations—Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale—with the Tamale event scheduled separately this year due to logistical reasons.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Regional Chief Imam, Abdulai Habibu Mohammed, Secretary to the Regional Chief Imam, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for its consistent support over the past six years.

“MTN has been supporting us for the past six years, and we are grateful that they continue to keep us in their thoughts. Their contributions show they care about the Muslim community,” he said.

He further noted that the donation would significantly support underprivileged Muslims, particularly those who may face financial difficulties in celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

The popular actress was slammed with a $145,750 lawsuit at a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court by human rights lawyer, Ikechukwu Obasi.

Obasi, who filed the suit on behalf of the Rivers State-born Junior Secondary School, JSS 1 student, emphasised that the teenage girl was subjected to what he tagged as a harmful religious ritual, which was later shared online.

He further noted that the circulation of the clip without the girl’s consent violated her privacy rights “under Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Child Rights Act 2003”.

While demanding $145,750 in damages, public apology, and removal of the footage from all social media platforms, Obasi also urged the court to declare the act a violation of the girl’s constitutional right to dignity and personal privacy.

Tonto Dikeh had shared a video some days ago of her carrying out a spiritual deliverance on a schoolgirl during her visit to a secondary school in Durumi II, Abuja.
