CAF fines Senegal FA $615,000 over misconduct in AFCON 2025 final

The Confederation of African Football has fined the Senegalese Football Federation a total of $615,000 for misconduct by players, technical staff and supporters during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The sanctions follow incidents that occurred during the final against hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Senegal players walked off the pitch for about 17 minutes in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco. After intervention from captain Sadio Mane, the Teranga Lions returned to complete the match and went on to win the title after extra time. Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal after Brahim Diaz missed the penalty that sparked the protest.

Following a review of reports from match officials, CAF imposed multiple fines on the Senegal FA. The federation was fined $300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters, $300,000 for the unsporting conduct of players and technical staff, and $15,000 for misconduct related to five players receiving cautions during the match.

In a statement, CAF said the actions brought the game into disrepute and violated principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity under its Disciplinary Code.

The Senegalese Football Federation is expected to consider an appeal against the ruling in the coming days.
