CAF bans PSG star Achraf Hakimi for two matches

The Confederation of African Football has handed Morocco and PSG defender Achraf Hakimi a two-match suspension for unsporting behaviour during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal.

The incident occurred during the high-stakes final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Hakimi was seen taking a towel belonging to Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and throwing it into the stands.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year later combined with teammate Ismail Saibari in an attempt to prevent the towel from being returned to the Senegal goalkeeper.

Following a review of the incident, CAF imposed disciplinary sanctions on the Moroccan full-back. One of the two-match suspensions has been suspended for a period of one year, meaning Hakimi will serve one immediate ban unless he commits a further offence within the suspension period.

In a statement, CAF said: “To suspend the Moroccan National Team player, Mr Achraf Hakimi, for two (2) official CAF matches, with one (1) of these matches being suspended for one (1) year from the date of this decision, for his unsporting behaviour.”
