Antoine Semenyo reveals how Bournemouth manager stopped him from leaving during the transfer window

Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo has disclosed the role Andoni Iraola played in helping him decide his future at AFC Bournemouth.

Semenyo was on the transfer wishlist of several clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United lined with the 25-year-old.

However, the former Bristol City striker shocked his suitors after inking a new long-term deal to keep him at Vitality Park until the summer of 2030.

According to the red-hot forward, Iraola’s strong finish to last season inspired his decision to stay.

“There was a lot of interest and back-and-fourth with the club [over a potential transfer],” Semenyo told Sky Sports. “But I knew in my head that the manager’s got something up his sleeve this year. How we finished off the season last year was so good and we could continue, especially with the players we’ve bought in as well.”

The Black Stars forward was pivotal in the Cherries’ best finish in the leagues last season with 11 Premier League goals. This season, Semenyo continued from where he left off, with six goals in 10 matches already.

“He’s unbelievable [Iraola] honestly,” he added. “As everyone embedded into what his playing style was, it’s just been unbelievable. It’s just relentless and I think everyone’s into it.”
