Yaa-Naa bans Friday prayers and funerals in Dagbon Kingdom

The Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II in consultation with his council of elders and Chief Imams banned all public gatherings such as funerals performance and Friday prayers in the Dagbon traditional area with an immediate effect.

A statement issued by Secretary of the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, Mr. Abdul Rahman Mohammed on Wednesday, 18th March, 2020 justified that the Yaa-Naa imposed the ban following the experience of South Korea where a religious congregational activity was key factor in the Asian country’s loss of control of the COVID-19 infection.

The Yaa-Naa also commended the President of the Republic, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for demonstrating leadership during these trying times of a global pandemic.

According to him, the strengthening of health communication and information systems and the contribution of the nation’s media, led by a strong political will, have all helped to realize the national objective of and informed population.
