Jihadist groups Boko Haram and Iswap unite – reports

Less than two months after former leader of the Boko Haram group Abubakar Shekau was killed in a confrontation with Islamic State of West Africa Province (Iswap), reports say the two jihadist groups have now reunited under a new commander.

This comes as foreign ministers from more than 40 countries are meeting in Rome today to discuss the growing threat of the Islamic State (IS) group in Africa.

A news agency with close links to Nigerian security agencies said that both Boko Haram and Iswap fighters were seen in a video clip pledging their loyalty to a new single authority.

Four insurgents, drawn from the now defunct Boko Haram and Iswap sects pledged their loyalty to a new commander.
