GIS Officer involved in a Fatal Accident at Dondoni responding to Treatment 

The Ghana Immigration Service Officer who on Wednesday 29th April 2020 was involved in a fatal accident is said to be responding gradually to treatment.

The officer whose identity has been withheld ina statement copied to FiilaNews was stationed at the Tatale Border post but was involved in an accident at Dondoni, an unapproved route in Tatale whilst he was on patrol duty.

The unfortunate incident happened Whiles the officer was chasing an unregistered vehicle suspected to be carrying smugglers from Ghana to Togo through the unapproved route at Dononi at about 1920hrs GMT on the said date.

The statement further added that the officer sustained physical injuries and was rushed to the Tatale District Hospital and was later referred to Zabzugu District Hospital for further treatment.

He has since been discharged, but reporting to the hospital for dressing of the wounds on schedule.

According to the statement, smuggling activities have been rampant in that area since the borders were closed a month ago due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the officers, with very little logistics, are putting their lives on the line to save Ghana from these criminal activities and also to prevent people from using unapproved routes into the country to further spread the coronavirus.

Meanwhile the Ghana Immigration Service has warned border residents to desist from aiding such criminal activities or face the wrath of the law when they are caught.
