Hospitals in Kenya are preparing for a surge in Covid-19 cases with some launching oxygen plants and increasing bed capacity, the Star newspaper has reported.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe in his regular briefings last week asked Kenyans to follow health guidelines warning that the fourth wave would be deadlier than the first three.
He did not give predictions on when the wave would begin but the Star newspaper reports that Kenya’s health research institute has warned that the wave will begin this month until August.
Private hospitals in the capital are stocking up on oxygen and MP Shah hospital will on Tuesday launch an oxygen plant.
The World Health Organization (WHO) had last week urged African nations to boost critical care capacity in hospitals as vaccination efforts in the continent have slowed down over delays in supply.
The continent has in the last two weeks recorded a 20% increase in cases compared with the previous fortnight, according to WHO.
Uganda, Angola and Namibia are experiencing a surge in virus cases.
