Accra: Man miraculously survives assassins close range gunfire

The secretary to the Kofi Akrashie stool faction in the chieftaincy-cum-land dispute at Oshiyie in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, Elder Newland Ansah-Baah Tuesday evening narrowly escaped death at the hands of two suspected assassins.

Elder Ansah-Baah was shot four times at close range allegedly by two men who had waylaid him at Adabraka Official Town in the Accra Metropolis while he was attending to some private business at about 8pm.

He had visited a law firm in the company of Nii Kofi Akrashie, also called Nii Oshiyie, and had stepped out to do some reading in his vehicle when bullets rang out at him, breaking the right arm, hitting the left twice and grazing his head.

At the scene of the incident, three spent shells and the shattered window glass shared the floor with droplets of his blood, which also splattered the driver’s seat and parts of the front.

The fourth bullet lay in the car where the suspected assassins thought they had killed him. He was quickly rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where Graphic Online sources say he is in a stable condition.

Eyewitnesses told Graphic Online that the assassins, wearing T-shirts and looking unkempt, had arrived on an unregistered motorbike shortly before the shooting.

They had parked the motorbike close to the roadside and across the parking lot of the law firm, engaged in some conversation.

When reached, Nii Oshiyie said Elder Ansah-Baah suffered serious injuries but was receiving the best of care. The incident has since been reported to the police.
