Turkey’s Erdoğan signals ‘new era’ Libya after Trump call

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said he reached some agreements with his US counterpart Donald Trump in telephone talks about the situation in Libya.

He told Turkish state television (TRT) there could be “a new era” between the US and Turkey regarding Libya, but gave no further details.

Turkish support for the UN-backed Libyan government in Tripoli helped Tripoli push back the besieging forces of the renegade general Khalifa Haftar in recent weeks.

On Sunday, the Russian foreign minister said he had agreed with Turkey to work for peace in Libya.

Russia has been providing military support to Gen Haftar.
