Claims of unpaid salaries, SSNIT contributions by Kumasi Airport security workers untrue – G7 Security

Management of G7 Security Systems has denied allegations that it failed to pay the salaries of its workers at the Kumasi Airport.

The workers, who embarked on a strike in protest, also accused the employers of failing to pay their Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions.

The company however says the claims, as raised by the workers who laid down their tools over the non-payment of their three-month salary arrears, are false.

It stated that although salaries for February and March 2021 delayed, the workers have received payments, with plans far advanced to credit their accounts for April’s salary by the first week of 2021.

“Our attention has been drawn to a media publication by your outfit that we have not paid our security guards salaries at the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Kumasi (GACL) for three months running. We wish to state that it is untrue. We have had a delay of payment of salaries for February and March 2021 calendars.”

“However, as at the time of writing this report, on our records of accounts, all guards who have worked at GACL have been fully paid, and we do not owe any salaries at the airport except the salary of April 2021, and we are working towards paying them by the first week of May 2021 as our monthly salary calendar falls due”, G7 security said in a statement.

The company also termed as an “exaggeration” claims that the SSNIT contributions of the workers have not been paid, adding that “we are in good standing with SSNIT and have paid our validated payment’s advice as of March 2021.”

Meanwhile, preparations are ongoing to acquire SSNIT numbers for workers without any for the necessary contributions to be made.

Some aggrieved workers in an earlier interview with Citi News lamented the poor conditions under which they work and urged the airport’s management to resolve those issues as well

The strike by the workers affected operations at the Airport, as construction workers on Phase Two of the airport expansion project were also denied access to the site.

Some passengers were also affected.

But the company has unreservedly apologized to all parties who were directly or indirectly affected by the action of its personnel.
