2020/21 Ghana Premier League: Week 11 Preview – AshantiGold vs. Asante Kotoko

It will be a crunchy Sunday this weekend in Obuasi when the Asanteman Derby takes place at the Len Clay Stadium in the Ghana Premier League.

AshantiGold SC will lock horns with regional rivals Asante Kotoko SC in match day 11 of the premiership this term.

The Miners will be tackling the crucial fixture like wounded lions after suffering a humiliating 5-2 defeat to Legon Cities FC in Accra last Friday.

AshantiGold remain undefeated at home this campaign as they have managed three victories and two draws from five matches in Obuasi.

The last home game saw the Miners fail to score for the first time after being held to scoreless stalemate by Medeama SC.

Serbian tactician Milovan Cirkovic will be facing Asante Kotoko without key midfielder Appiah McCarthy who has been ruled out with an injury for up to two months.

McCarthy has scored three goals from free-kicks at the Len Clay Stadium this season.

Dacosta Boadu remains on the sidelines with an injury with rest of the squad available for selection on Sunday.

Winger Yaw Annor has scored three goals in his last three games for the Miners. He is expected to be key against the Porcupine Warriors.

Asante Kotoko SC are making about a two-hour trip to Obuasi to take on AshantiGold with the intentions of preserving their away form this season.

The Porcupine Warriors remain the only team yet to lose on the road in Ghana Premiership this campaign having won two and drew three in five away games.

Asante Kotoko were given a reality check last weekend at the Accra Sports Stadium when they were beaten 1-0 by Aduana Stars.

They hope to make amends with a victory against AshantiGold on Sunday which won’t come easily.

Johnson Smith will continue to lead the club on Sunday since no substantive coach has been appointed.

Last weekend’s loss to Aduana was his first since taking over as stop-gap coach after five matches.

Asante Kotoko will be missing the services of Habib Mohammed, Emmanuel Keyekeh and Patrick Asmah who are all treating respective injuries.

Brazilian import Fabio Gama dos Santos has been declared fit to face AshantiGold this weekend after picking a slight knock last week.

Yussif Mubarik and Abdul Latif Anabila will facing AshantiGold for the very first time since their departure from the club to join Asante Kotoko.
