Six suspects escape from Sandema police station

Six persons being held at the Sandema police station in the Upper East Region have escaped.

The suspects who were all being kept in one of the three cells at the station allegedly escaped last Saturday despite being under police guard.

One of the escapees was however re-arrested moments after the incident.

Police authorities say, the inmates had been planning to escape for some time now and have been successful.

“We were able to capture one of them, few hours after the incident. So we are doing everything possible so that we recapture all of them in the shortest possible time,” Public Relations Officer of the Upper East Police Command, ASP David Fianko Okyere told Citi News.

“Internal procedures have been initiated to investigate the complicity of police officers who were guarding the prisoners. The police officers will have to explain to the administration what exactly happened and the necessary action will be taken”, he added.

Meanwhile, the general public is however been urged to volunteer information to arrest the other inmates on the run.

This is not the first time such an incident has been recorded.

Last week, 12 inmates escaped from the Zenu-Atadeka police station after they reportedly poured porridge on one of the police officers manning the facility.
