Citizens participation in house numbering encouraging-N/R Statistician

The Northern regional statistician has noted that citizens in the region have shown willingness to be counted during this year’s population and housing census.

This according to Mr. George Agbenyo stems from residents encouraging participation in the just ended two weeks house numbering, which forms part of the first phase of the Population and Housing census.

He made this known Sunday 27 June,2021 , during the launch of the “Census Night”, at the Tamale Jubilee Park to officially kickstart the second phase of the census which entails collecting data of citizens and non citizens living in Ghana.

The Census Night will be used as a reference night, in the collection of data to enable enumerators take information of citizens who slept in the country on the said night.

On the uniqueness of this year’s census, Mr. Agbenyor noted that every days data will be forwarded to the head office for scrutiny and errors sent back to  enumerators for correction, hence making the data at the end of the exercise ready for use.

He thus urged citizens to get counted, as it is their constitutional mandate and will as well help in decision making by authorities in the near future.

On the census night, data of floating citizens will be taken at vantage points including bus terminals, hospitals, hotels among other places.

On his part the Northern Regional Minister who officially launched the night, urged citizens to avail themselves for the census to help give a picture of the true state of citizens in the region.

Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu called on enumerators t exhibit patience during the data collection period as they’re most likely to encounter problem with individuals and groups.

He meanwhile urged citizens to still observe the Covid protocols during this period as we are still not in normal times.

In all a total of 5,392 field staff are assigned to serve as enumerators and supervisors in the region.
