Samson Lardy Anyenini terminates legal representation for journo

A-Partners @ Law, the law firm of Samson Lardy Anyenini has terminated legal representation for Emmanuel Biritwum, one of the journalists of online platform Modern Ghana who was detained by National Security operatives last week.

This development follows Mr Biritwum’s lawyer’s claim that her client was never assaulted and tortured by operatives of National Security as previously alleged.

A statement signed by Mr Anyenini said he had “become aware via the media that Britwum has procured the services of another lawyer” and wished him well.

“I have just this evening become aware via the media that Britwum has procured the services of another lawyer. I wish him well,” the statement said.

“I will continue to make myself available to journalists and the GJA to defend rights generally and media rights in particular”.

Background

Media reports indicate that on Thursday, June 27, National Security Operatives raided the offices of ModernGhana and arrested the two of it’s journalists; Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri and Emmanuel Yeboah Britwum and seized some laptop computers.

Mr Abugri has in subsequent media interviews following his release alleged that he was tortured in custody while Britwum has stated that he was forced to provide the password to his laptop.
