Sammy Awuku appointed NLA Director-General

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed the National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Kwabena Awuku as the new Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

Mr Awuku is expected to resign from his position as NPP National Organiser to take up the appointment which has been approved by the Council of State.

He has also served as the Board Chairman of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), a government agency that has the mandate to co-ordinate and facilitate employment opportunities for young people in Ghana.

Mr Awuku replaces Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, who was directed by President Akufo-Addo on March 10, 2021, to hand over to the finance director, Ernest Mortey upon his retirement. That directive was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante.

Earlier in March, some staff of the Authority withdrew their services to protest and demand the immediate dismissal of the Director-General, Mr Osei Ameyaw over the non-payment of lottery winnings

They alleged that some of their members have received threats and in some instances been attacked due to the development.
