CSD Launches Project To Provide Paralegal Services To Tamale Central Prison Inmates

The Center for Social and Development (CSD) Reform has launched a special component of the HOPE Project in Tamale in the Northern region.

The HOPE Project with funding from the French Embassy in Ghana is focusing on improving the capacity of the Tamale Central Prison to provide paralegal services to inmates for the next 12 months.

The collaboration between CSD Reform, the Tamale Central Prison and the French Embassy in Ghana is aimed to promote justice, social inclusion and integral human development.

Member of the Board of Directors of CSD Reform, Rev. Fr. Gerald K. Zienaa, said protecting the fundamental human rights of all persons is one of the most important values of CSD Reform.

He noted that the HOPE project is responding to the aspirations and transformation principles of the Sustainable Development Goals of ‘Ensure no one is left behind.

According to him, the Board of Directors will continue to support the management of CSD Reform through their governance oversight to enable the organization to live up to its mission and vision statements.

“We urge project managers to take the issue of safeguarding and vulnerable protection very seriously in the course of the project implementation.”

Rev. Fr. Zienaa called for support of key implementing partners such as the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Prison Service, the Regional Directorate of the Legal Aid Commission and the media among others to accord the HOPE Project and CSD Reform the needed support to ensure a smooth implementation of the Project.

The Northern Regional Commander of Prisons, DDP Samuel Sapak Zoogah, thanked CSD Reform and the French Embassy in Ghana for launching a project focusing on strengthening the capacity of the Ghana Prison Service to provide paralegal services.

He was optimistic that through the intervention, the inmates in their custody will have access to efficient justice delivery services through paralegal services.

DDP Zoogah pledged the Tamale Central Prison’s cooperation, commitment and support towards the successful implementation of the special component of the HOPE Project in Tamale.

He called for both internal and external support from individuals, organizations and donors to aid in improving their capacity to provide justice and reformation services to the inmates.
