COVID-19: Prez Akufo-Addo extends ban on social gatherings for 2 weeks

President Akufo-Addo has extended the ban on the social gatherings by two more weeks effective Monday, April 27, 2020, at 1 am.

The ban was first imposed on March 15 by the President and was due to expire on April 27. At the time, Ghana had recorded six cases of COVID-19.

The ban affects all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church activities and other related events.

The President made this known tonight (April 26, 2020) during his eighth update on measures to control the Coronavirus in the country.

He said the decision which is backed by science and data also has the support of some stakeholders in the country including the Council of State, the Ghana Journalists Association, Trades Union Congress, National House of Chiefs, and the National Union of Ghana Students.

The latest two-week extension announced yesterday (April 26, 2020) is due to expire on May 11.
