The 18 Premier League clubs are expected to receive $30,000 each as their share of the StarTimes Television Broadcast Rights for this season.
This adds up to $540,000 out of the $700,000 allocated to the Premier League for the 2019/2020 season, with the FA Cup also expected to get $150,000 while the Visibility Support to the Division One League (DOL) and Women’s League is being allocated $100,000.
Although the Premier League clubs are yet to receive their $30,000 share nine weeks into the season, sources indicate that StarTimes company is still fine-tuning the payment modalities with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) before the funds be released.
The CEO of Ashantigold, Mr Fred Acheampong, told the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday that the clubs were happy with the transparent manner in which the GFA divulged the details of the StarTimes deal to them, adding that they were satisfied with their share of the $950,000 sponsorship package for the season.
The five-year deal will see Ghana football attracting a total of $5,250,000 from the Chinese media house as television rights for the Premier League, the FA Cup, Women’s football and the Division One League (DOL).
Enhanced package
Per the negotiations, the Premier League share of the package for the 2020/2021 season will be enhanced by $50,000, likewise the FA Cup, while that of the visibility support to DOL and women’s football has been reduced by the same value.
A total of $1.1m sponsorship will be available in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 league seasons, with the Premier League getting the biggest chunk of $800,000, while $200,000 goes to the FA Cup and $50,000 for Visibility support to DOL and Women’s football.
In the final year, there will be another top-up of $50,000 to take the total sponsorship package for the season to $1,150m.
