Police process two boys for court for feigning kidnappings

Two boys in Upper East Region are to face the law for faking their kidnapping. Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ampofo Duku said the conduct of the suspects was unlawful, and they will therefore be arraigned to serve as a deterrent to others.

He noted that one of the boys, aged 15, is said to have demanded 200 Ghana Cedis ransom from his parents.

According to him, after incurring a debt at a football betting centre, the boy bought an old SIM card and called his mother to demand the ransom. But unfortunately, he was arrested, after the ransom was sent to the supposed kidnapper through mobile money.

DCOP Doku also noted that the second boy left home to fetch water and never returned, but called his guardians to report that he had been kidnapped. Upon his arrest, he also confessed to faking his kidnap.
