Cylinder Re-circulation Model pilot implementation launched in Yendi

The National Petroleum Authority, NPA, and the Ministry of Energy, has finally launched the Cylinder Re-circulation Model (CRM) at the Yendi municipality in the Northern Region.

The position of Yendi is intended to serve as a link to the other areas in the Eastern Corridor part of the region.

The CRM program has seen government secure various sizes of cylinders to ensure the smooth kick start and sustained implementation of the program.

The Cylinder Re-circulation Model, which is primarily aimed at reducing LPG-related accidents according to government, will also create more jobs contrary to claims by players in the sector that they will lose their jobs.

Speaking at the launch of the policy in Yendi which has been on the drawing board since 2017, Mr Hassan S. Tampuli the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) said the model will save people time, create more jobs as well as reduce the risk of one getting involved in an accident at an LPG station.

He noted that over 4,500 jobs will be created under the CRM hence the need for Ghanaians to pick up the opportunity to get into the distribution of LPG to consumers.

The CEO thus appealed to Ghanaians to cooperate with the industry players to ensure the smooth kickstart and sustainability of the model implementation.

Meanwhile a member of the CRM pilot committee, Mr. Kweku Agyeman Duah indicated that the five areas that have already began  implementation of the model have faced some challenges which have since been addressed.

He is therefore urging the people to be on alert for challenges as the project begins in this part of the country next week.

On his part the MCE for Yendi Municipality, Alhaji Hamid Abubakar Yussif, believes it is for the peace that the people of the area are currently enjoying that led to the area’s choice as a CRM zone.

He is thus urging the people of Yendi to sustain and consolidate the peace of Dagbon for development.

The Cylinder Re-circulation Model idea came about after a major gas explosion at Atomic Junction in Accra in October 2017, that left seven dead and over 130 people injured.

Following that incident, which was just one of several gas explosions in the past, President Akufo-Addo met his cabinet, and announced some regulatory measures to ensure the safety of Ghanaians and to reduce or eliminate gas-related explosions.

The importance of gas, and its use in our national economy, requires that we must develop and enforce regulations and practices, and deploy technology to ensure the safe use of gas and safety of our citizens.

Meanwhile, the National Petroleum Authority has said the Cylinder Re-circulation Model would create at least 4500 jobs across the country.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Hassan Tampuli, the model when fully introduced would create jobs for distributors and retailers at the various bottling plants.

Two companies, so far have been given licenses to establish and operate LPG bottling plants in different parts of the country although over 20 companies have applied for the licenses.
