| The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is using the most appropriate measures in dealing with reported cases of corruption in the country.Unlike the NDC, the party believes that the President’s move of referring all alleged corrupt cases to the state investigative bodies was the thing to do for the best outcome and justice to prevail.
The General Secretary of the NPP, Mr John Boadu, stated this at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Wednesday.
Compare and contrast
He thus called on Ghanaians to compare and contrast the approaches and attitude of the President to reported cases of corruption in his administration to what former President John Mahama did during his tenure in office.
He said whereas former President Mahama either turned deaf ears to, changed positions of or shielded appointees alleged to have engaged in corrupt practices, President Akufo-Addo had referred every single allegation to the appropriate state agencies for investigations and appropriate action.
He said the same day that the NDC was throwing dust into the eyes of unsuspecting Ghanaians, the Global Corruption Barometer (Africa Report 2019) was released.
He said according to the report, out of the 34 African countries surveyed, Ghana was the fourth least corrupt, only slightly below Sierra Leone, Lesotho and Tanzania, a feat that defeats the claim by the NDC.
“Leaderships and opinion leaders across Ghana are invited to dispassionately review the President’s position on corruption, its impact and beyond that the actual fight he is leading based on the principles he espouses and respects, and the actions he takes on the basis of those principles,” he asked.
Rule of law
He said President Akufo-Addo had referred every alleged corrupt allegation against his own appointees and public office holders in the former administration to the appropriate agencies as a mark of rule of law and as a means of allowing them to have their say.
Mr Boadu noted that President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the presence of corruption in the past and present and continued to demonstrate concrete steps towards sustainable lasting solutions, the NDC preferred shouting as loudly as possible in the unrealistic hope of gaining doubtful political capital.
He said the NDC’s game plan was merely repeating loudly and very often a mantra of “corruption,” and attaching the President’s name to it with the hope of getting that image stuck with Ghanaians and also influencing the outcomes of independent surveys, especially foreign sourced surveys, as a way of vindicating their non-existent approach to fighting corruption.
No message
Mr Boadu said the NDC did not have any message for Election 2020 and that was why they had resorted to the smear campaign and lies as part of attempts to take attention from the numerous achievements President Akufo-Addo had chalked up through the fulfillment of the campaign promises he made to the people of Ghana. |
