The European Union’s top court has struck down trade agreements between the EU and Morocco that included the disputed territory of Western Sahara.
The judges in Luxembourg upheld a complaint by a separatist group, the Polisario Front, that the people of the former Spanish colony had not been properly consulted.
The deal in 2019 covered farm produce from Western Sahara and fish caught in its waters.
The court gave Morocco two months to appeal and said the ruling would not take effect until an appeal had been heard.
Polisario disputes Morocco’s control over the territory and has spent decades pushing for self-determination.
