The Northern Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have congratulated former President John Dramani Mahama for his election as the presidential candidate of the party.
Whilst commending the other aspirants for conceding defeat in the race and pledging to work with the flagbearer elect, the executives said the high voter turnout and percentage gained by Mahama is an indication that the party is poised to win power in election 2020.
The executives said this at a press conference on Sunday in Tamale.
“We the Northern regional executives have from Sunday started our campaign in earnest for victory towards the general election,” Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila, the Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress stated.
He continued that: “We are therefore encouraging grassroots participation towards victory in 2020.”
Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila appealed to the other contestants to rally behind the flagbearer and work for victory in the upcoming polls.
In the Northern Region, Mr. Mahama polled 23,292 votes out of a total of 24, 713 valid votes cast.
Nationally, former President John Mahama secured an overwhelming 213,487 votes representing 95.23 percent of the total valid votes cast with the other six contenders managing with about 4 percent.
