Let’s All Admit We Have Vigilante Groups So We Can Disband Them – Sammy Awuku

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Sammy Awuku says his party is ‘ever ready’ to let go all vigilante groups formed within the NPP if only the opposition NDC admit to do same.

According to him, if both parties [NPP and NDC] come to an agreement to break up from these groups, their services will not be needed ahead of 2020 elections.

Sammy Awuku admitted that the NPP has birth numerous vigilante groups but their modus operandi was not to cause violence.

He wondered why the NDC cannot come clean on similar groups under the ‘Umbrella’ family.

Mr Awuku was responding to NDC MP, Samuel George’s claims that the NDC’s ‘Azorka Boys’, ‘the Hawks’ among others are not vigilante groups – instead, Community Development groups.

The Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament made this claim when he appeared as a witness before the Emile Short Commission investigating the violence that marred the recent Ayawaso by-election and related matters.

According to Sam George, those who accuse the ‘Azorka Boys’ of vigilantism are misinformed.

“I can state for a fact without equivocation that the party I belong to, the NDC, does not have any vigilante group,” he said.

But speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Sammy Awuku noted that the posture of the NDC will make matters worse and drag call by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to dissolve vigilante groups.

“We should all admit we have these groups so we can disband them as directed by the President,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.
