The Mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu has called on youth in the Northern Region to clinch to various government initiatives targeted at employment creation in the region and nationwide.
The Mayor made this call at the 17th Electrical Wiring graduation ceremony held in Tamale.
The ceremony which was under the theme “Supporting U-Start, Building and Empowering Entrepreneurs” is in line with government’s YOUSTART flagship program.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, he urged the certified electricians to make use of the YOUSTART programme under the Ministry of Finance.
He explained that the programme strategically builds the capacity of electrical wiring practitioners in an effort to make them abreast with emerging technological trends and development, as well as facilitate the growth of wiring professionals nationwide.
“…….the YOUSTART programme under the Ministry of Finance is aimed at making resources available for the youth to start their own businesses with the aim of reducing youth unemployment in the country” He said.
Addressing the graduates at the ceremony, the Regional Programmes Officer of the Energy Commission, Mr. Bukari John announced that a total of 13,266 electricians have been certified nationwide since May this year.
He added that, the graduation ceremony was conducted for 199 candidates in the Northern region.
Mr. John further hinted that the commission is putting measures in place to engage various stakeholders regulating highly combustible and flammable substances to enhance safe electrical wiring of facilities.
“……the commission also intends to engage stakeholders regulating highly combustible and flammable substances to enhance safe electrical wiring of facilities used for processing, production, storage, retail and disposal of such substances”
He made an appeal to the public to only engage the services of certified electricians in order to enable them trace and reduce electrical casualties.
