About 300 of the 560 dams under the flagship One-District-One-Dam project is 90 percent complete, Minister of Special Development Initiative, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has said.
According to her, the spillways, embankment and grazing and other final works make up the 10 percent to make up the 100 percent.
Hon Koomson revealed this in an exclusive interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Friday.
To prevent evaporation, the Special Development Initiative Minister said they are also planting trees along the banks of the dams.
She noted that the areas where the dams are 90% complete include: Bulsa North and South, Chiana Paga, Pusiga, Bolgatanga East and Central, Bawku Central, Wa East and West, Binduri and Nandom among others.
She bemoaned how some people want to run down their good works when they are serving the public good.
“We are really working hard to ensure the five Northern regions get water all year round so we are not bothered about machinations of detractors,” she added.
The Special Development Initiative Minister expressed appreciation to the chiefs who have willingly offered lands for the project.
She assured of prompt completion of all the dams before 2020.
