Human Errors major cause of road crushes- N/R Police Commander

Human errors resulting from indiscipline, lack of focus, drunk driving, intolerance, recalcitrant behaviors among several others, accounts for most  road crushes recorded in the country in recent days, this is according to COP Timothy Yoosa Bonga.

The Northern regional police commander believes that though the road traffic act (act 683) 2004, among other acts and legislative instruments were carved to help regulate driver behavior and reduce accidents on our roads, the onus lies more on road users to achieve this feet.

He made this known during the regional sensitization launch of the nationwide flagship program by the National Roadsafety Authority’s “Arrive Alive”  campaign, which took place at the State Transport Cooperation yard, on Tuesday December 14,2021.

According to Cop Timothy Yoosa Bonga, the police service will continue with the sensitization, education and enforcement on road safety usage in pursuant to the laws and all persons found violating these laws will be brought to book.

He  urged all road users to endeavor to use the COAT acronym  during this festivities which calls for  Concentration, Observance, Attention and Tolerance on the part of road users to help reduce carnages as much as possible.

COP Timothy Yoosa Bonga further appealed to commercial vehicle owners to stop making extra demands for pays as it puts much burden on their drivers to cover more trips .

“A call for more pay, overburdens drivers with several trips as it leaves them exhausted and with little or no attention during their trips”.

On his part the regional director for the National Road safety Authority, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Somed, noted that the “Arrive Alive” campaign is aimed at influencing the general public to be advocates for road safety by adopting and shouting out the campaign slogan “Gyae Obonsam Adwuma No!”, whenever they encounter unsafe usage of the road.

This he believes will help influence a reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries by about a 15% if well implemented.
