Guinness World Records: Adu Safowaah to attempt speech-a-thon

Regina Adu Safowaah, a Ghanaian showbiz personality, will be attempting Guinness World Records’ longest speech marathon.

The record activity will take place at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel from February 9 to 14, 2024.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces, she said she would be speaking about things that will project Ghana and Africa.

“With the longest speech marathon, your topics are irrelevant to them. But whatever you say must mean something to the public. So I come as a public figure or a lecturer talking about issues of life.

I told them that I will talk about Africa, precisely Ghana. So if I take Greater Accra Region, I am to tell them about their culture, what they are about, what they believe in,” Adu said.

She also noted that she is allowed to use any language of her choice but in her case she will be using English, French and Twi.

As part of the rules, a question and answer session can be staged as part of the attempt but the people asking the question must not be seen.

Each speech must be a minimum of 5 minutes long. Apart from pauses lasting not more than 30 seconds in between speeches, the record activity must be continuous. The speech must also be unscripted, spontaneous and significantly different from each other.

Adu Safowaah is an actor, creative director, entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer of Aketesia Group.

She will be the fifth Ghanaian to have taken part in a Guinness World Records attempt, following Afua Asantewaa (sing-a-thon), Chef Failatu Abdul Razak (cook-a-thon),  Ace-Liam Nana Sam (youngest artist), and Dela Gomey (lipstick applications in 30 seconds).

In the meantime, it is reported than close to 400 Ghanaians have applied to Guinness World Records to take part in various attempts.
