1 Dead, 3 injured over land dispute in Savannah Region

One person has been confirmed dead while three others are battling for their lives at various health facilities after they sustained injuries following disagreement over land between two communities.

The communities are Losumpe and Kejase, near Mpaha and within the Debre Traditional Area in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region on Sunday morning, May 23.

The deceased, identified by the police as Iddrisu Fuseini,48, is said to have sustained cuts on his chest while the three others, who  sustained multiple machete wounds on their bodies and are currently on admission, are, Ibrahim Yakubu, 37, Alhassan Abubakari, 42, and Abaka Alhassan,49.

Calm restored

According to the Savannah Regional Police Command, calm has since been restored in the area following the deployment of military and police personnel from Buipe, the Central Gonja District capital, to the area.

The security forces deployed to the area have also intensified their foot patrols to ensure law and order and to prevent any possible reprisal attacks.

Incident 

The Police said on May 23, at 7.30 a.m, the Debrewura Sulwu, the Paramount Chief of Debre Traditional Area, called the police at Mpaha to come to his palace to provide security for him and his elders to settle a land dispute between Losumpe and Kejasa communities because he was sensing danger.

The police said during the settlement of the issue, both parties became aggrieved and started insulting each other which resulted in a fight between them, with some getting injured. The injured were rushed to the Mpaha Health Centre and Family Life Clinic, Kigbirpe for treatment.

According to the police, they later visited the Mpaha Health Centre and saw the body of Fuseini with cuts on his chest and the three others with multiple cuts on their bodies on admission at the Mpaha Health Centre and Family Life Clinic respectively.

The police said efforts were underway to convey the body of the deceased to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
