God Care’s Community Hospital Celebrates women on the occasion of International Women’s Day

Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the God “Care’s” Community Hospital, Gifty Opoku says Ghana is making giant progress in women empowerment but however indicated that there is much to be done. According to her, unlike before, women can now speak out their challenges and demand for their rights in society hence occupying sensitive leadership positions in the country.

Speaking exclusively to Fiila News at God “Care’s” Community Hospital in commemoration with the International Women’s Day, Mrs. Opoku bemoaned the gender inequality in education, poverty, health care delivery among others in rural Ghana.

This year’s celebration is under the global theme “Think equal, build smart and innovate for change.”

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights globally.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the hospital was however worried that women especially in Moslem communities still finds it difficult to speak out their challenges when they are abused or molested because of their religious settings.

She therefore used the opportunity to call on women to work hard to earn a living and support their husbands and families without solely depending on the men to provide for them.

A Principal Midwifery Officer at God “Care’s” Community Hospital, Madam Aliyatu Zakaria said women are making progress in leadership positions and should be encouraged by giving them more opportunities to serve in public offices in the society they belong to.

She was however saddened by the name calling, character assassination of women in leadership positions especially in politics.

She said when women are given the opportunity, they can do even better as their male counterparts.

She encouraged women to be bold and always stand for whatever they want to do in society devoid of the maligning, character assassination, name calling among others.

Chief Executive Officer of God “Care’s” Community Hospital, Dr. Opoku who paid glowing tribute to women for their unflinching support in their homes and even society in general, mentioned poverty, inequality, illiteracy as the key challenges facing rural women in Ghana. He asked that women be empowered to enable them to continue playing their vital role in society.

He further stated that, the commitment and dedication of the rural women in his operational area to the well being of their families is enormous.

Most patients especially on admission who spoke with Fiila News expressed their excitement over the celebration since it will encourage women to strive ahead to champion their rights and empower them better.

God “Cares” Community Hospital is a private healthcare facility that provides health care services to the vulnerable and underprivileged communities and people in the Northern Region.

The facility located at Kasalgu provides quality healthcare services to communities in the Tolon district, Sagnarigu municipality, Tamale Metropolitan area and North Gonja district.
