The President and Executive Council of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), has appealed to all GIBA member radio station managers, to closely support efforts in their stations, and continue to enhance the practice of ethical journalism at all levels whiles improving cooperation between broadcasters, policymakers, local authorities, law enforcement bodies, businesses and the general public.

This according to GIBA will fosters a situation of having an informed audience who are in a good position to learn, consume, and respond to credible content, and thereby appreciate the quality of journalism that a radio station delivers to them.

This was contained in a release copied to FiilaNews and signed by the Secretary of GIBA Madam Gloria Hiadzi, observing World Radio day which is celebrated on 13th February annually.

In recent times, listeners tend to consume radio through a variety of devices and formats due to advancements in technology.

With the current digital age, ethical journalism seems to be suffering some challenges as it is getting increasingly difficult to distinguish between factual and “fake news”.

The release further added that, with the 489 authorized operators, radio continues to play a very important role in educating, sensitizing and entertaining the general public, whilst providing the platform for dialogue and civic participation to promote effective local governance.

Members are encouraged to plan activities to celebrate the World Radio Day annually , and to grant the opportunity to all persons to share their views about the impact of radio broadcasting on their lives and activities, and how it can be improved further.
