The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 6, 2023, to elect a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates ahead of the 2024 general elections.
A timetable released by the party on Thursday, January 5 after the party’s Functional and National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting also stated that both Presidential and Parliamentary primaries will take place concurrently.
The opening of nominations, per the timetable, would be from February 22 to February 24, 2023.
Submission and filing of forms have been scheduled for Monday, March 20, 2023, to Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
The timetable also stated that the vetting of the aspirants would be held from Monday, March 27, 2023, to Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Appeals by aspirants will follow from March 30 to April 6.
Meanwhile, a filing fee of GH¢500,000 has been proposed with a nomination fee of GH¢30,000 for the presidential aspirants while a fee of GH¢5000 has been proposed for the parliamentary forms with GH¢40,000 proposed as the filing fee.
The party added all appointees at all levels are to remain at post until the end of May 2023. However, if executives at any level have a special case regarding any appointee, they are encouraged to call for the matter to be resolved.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, former Minister of Finance, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, and a former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, are likely to contest each other for the flagbearership slot ahead of the 2022 elections.
