Ken Ofori-Atta will continue reckless borrowing  – A.B.A Fuseini

The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu constituency A.B.A Fuseini has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta of engaging in reckless irresponsible borrowing because they make money anytime Ghana borrows.

According to the vociferous MP, Mr Ofor-Atta should not be in office by now given his performance as a minister and the calls by a large section of the public especially parliamentarians from his own NPP for his removal.

“Ken Ofori-Atta should have become history at least like two years ago or more. It is morally reprehensible and never in the annals of our country’s history have we had our morals so debased, especially by what this government and Ken Ofori-Atta has done” he asserted

He further alleged that the NPP government embarked on reckless irresponsible borrowing because Ken Ofori-Atta’s company benefits and makes money any time Ghana goes to borrow.

“Anytime we borrow Ken Ofori-Atta’s Data Bank makes money, so it makes sense for him to just go and continue reckless borrowing so that any amount we borrow, they will make more money. So today, Ken Ofori-Atta’s company has become richer at the expense of poor labouring Ghanaians” A.B.A Fuseini said in an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show

Prior to getting a successful IMF bailout programme, various stakeholders including; Civil Society Organisations, National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some Majority MPs had impressed on President Akufo Addo to change Ken Ofori-Atta as the finance minister.

However, the president pleaded with the NPP MPs who had threatened to boycott government business and the Ghanaian public to allow Mr. Ofori-Atta to complete the IMF negotiations since he had started it.

The IMF Board unanimously approved Ghana’s programme over the next three years at a meeting in Washington May 17, 2023 and has since received the first trench of Six Hundred Million Dollars out of the total approved Three Billion Dollars.
