Close the huge MIL gap- Ms Benewaa to Ghanaian Youth

The project manager for media literacy at DW Akademie Ghana, Ms Abena Benewaa Fosu has called on Ghanaians especially the youth, to help close the gap in media literacy by desisting from sharing non factual information.

She believes the media literacy gap in the country has a great tendency of jeopardizing the Peace enjoyed in the country in recent past.

This according to her needs to be addressed, to prevent conflicts that my escalate due to the lack of fact checking information at one’s disposal, before passing it on to a third party.

She made this known during this year’s Media and Information Literacy week colloquium on Thursday  October 28,2021, in Tamale, under the theme; “Media and Information Literacy for the Public Good”.

The week seeks to drum home the need for the general public to scrutinize information they receive, confirm its authenticity or otherwise before onward distribution to a third party.

In an interview with FiilaNews, she noted the country will be heading for destruction should people keep sharing information they receive without further checks.

On his part the regional crime officer, Ghana Police Service, Sup Bernard Baba Ananga also underscored the need for Ghanaians to be sensitive about the information they share to others and cross check before forwarding.

He thus called for the need to rely on the service for authentic information via their platforms rather than those from unknown sources peddling falsehood.

He called on the media to be circumspect with their choice of information

Meanwhile the Head of News at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mr Saaka Mohammed called on the NCA to regulate the media space to nib the issue of lawlessness on various media space in the bud.

He noted that the media is a tool that must be used for the development of the people and not promoting any rituals or heinous acts that misleads the youth especially.

He thus called on the youth to analyze information received and desist from being Spineless receivers of information.
