The Technical University Workers Association of Ghana (TUWAG), says it is hopeful that a meeting with the National Labour Commission (NLC), this week will address all its concerns.
The group is expected to meet the NLC on Wednesday following the announcement of an imminent strike next month.
The Association’s National President, Nana Kwapong Offei-Boahene in a Citi News interview said it is hoping that its members will be migrated unto the public universities salary structure.
“When we issued our letter on Thursday, my national secretary called me that the Labour Commission has written to us to meet us on Wednesday at 4pm. We are hoping and trusting that the technical University workers will be migrated unto the public universities salary structure.”
TUWAG last week said that the failure of the government to migrate them onto the obligatory pay structure that applies to the public universities has led to tensions on various campuses.
“At our Executive Board Meeting held on 24th October 2019, at Accra Technical University, we resolved to invoke section 168 (1) of Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) to join the other unions in technical universities with immediate effect.”
“However, the Union has officially written to the Labour Commission, notifying them of our intention to embark on our own strike effective 1st November 2019 if our demands are not met,” Nana Kwapong Offei- Boahene said.
