BREAKING NEWS: CK Akonnor named new Ghana head coach

The 45-year-old gaffer has been appointed the new head coach of the senior national team of Ghana and Ibrahim Tanko as an assistant coach, according to Kumasi based OTEC Fm.

Former Ghana international Charles Kwablan Akonnor has been named the new head coach of Black Stars of Ghana until 2022.

The former Asante Kotoko trainer officially inked a two-year deal with the Ghana Football Association on Tuesday.

Coach Akonnor has vast experience in coaching with his stint at top Ghana Premier League clubs namely Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, Ashanti Gold SC, Asante Kotoko and division one side, Sekondi Eleven Wise.

Before his appointment, he was named the substantive assistant coach of the Black Stars of Ghana under Coach Kwesi Appiah.

He was part of the Black Stars technical team that recorded a victory over South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. It is confirmed that Ibrahim Tanko has been named the assistant coach of the Black Stars of Ghana

Coach Akonnor capped 41 times for Ghana and he was named captain of the Black Stars following Abedi Pele’s retirement.
