Punish persons allegedly diverting SHS food supplies – Adomako-Mensa to GES

The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Mr. Collins Adomako Mensah, wants persons allegedly involved in diverting food meant for Senior High Schools to be punished if found culpable.

According to him, such reprehensible acts must not be swept under the carpet.

The Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is probing some 53 SHSs in the Ashanti Region over alleged corruption in the implementation of the School Feeding Programme under the Free SHS policy.

Management of the GES subsequently wrote to the Ashanti Regional Directorate to ensure that all school heads and other officials cooperate with the ongoing investigations.

Speaking on Citi TV‘s Breakfast Daily programme on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, Mr. Adomako Mensah said the laws of the country should be applied to the letter.

“Unfortunately for me, the oldest and biggest school in my constituency is part of it. So I got upset when I got the news. So I quickly called my DCE to find out what was going on. He also didn’t have the needed information, so he was waiting for feedback from the district education director.”

“But I find the issue very discouraging that food items supplied by the government for our younger ones to sustain this Free Education Policy are being sold by headmasters and headmistresses of schools for their personal gains. I think it is quite unfortunate, and I pray that investigations are done as quickly as possible and those found culpable should face the law.”
