The Ghana Statistical Service is set to put out preliminary results of the 2021 Population and Housing Census in September.
The Population and Housing Census is expected to reveal the country’s population as well as structures that would help in taking critical developmental decisions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training exercise organised for the post enumerators at Winneba, Government Statistician, Prof. Kobina Annim called for cooperation as the 21-day post enumeration survey kicks off across the country.
“The essence of the exercise is to assure ourselves that the 2021 Population and Housing Census had quality coverage as well as great content,” he noted.
Nearly 400 enumerators have begun the post enumeration survey by the Ghana Statistical Service after undergoing a training exercise.
They are back on the field to assess the quality and the content of the 2021 Population and housing census.
Chief Technical Advisor of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Dr. Collins Opiyo, stated that the post enumeration survey seeks to add to the 2021 population and housing census.
He averred, “the essence is to collect data, match the data with the data that was collected during the population and housing census and reconcile them to make an assessment of the quality of coverage and the content of the data that was collected during the main census.”
He further pleaded with all the supervisors to ensure that they work throughout the 21-day period earmarked for the exercise with the enumerators. “Operationally, the post enumeration survey is different from the main census because, in the main census, they only identified one enumerator to an enumeration area,” he intimated.
The enumerators have begun the post enumeration survey and they are expected to finish the 21-day exercise on September 14.
