Regional police headquarters holds promotional training for junior officers

The Northern Regional Police headquarters has commenced the training of its junior officers from today Monday, June 14, 2021.

The promotional course which is designed for Junior Police Officers from the rank of Constable to Inspectors will see officers going through the training and finishing up with a promotional examination.

It forms part of a nationwide capacity building program aimed at equipping the men in uniform in combatting crime.

In an interview with the Regional  Police Commander, COP Timothy Y. Bonga noted that as crime gets sophisticated, the officers  ought to also build their capacities  to enable them match the crime levels they may combat.

He noted that the three weeks long training will be climaxed with an examination which will subsequently lead to the promotion of these officers.

In his opening remarks, Supt. Mahmud Yussif noted the timeliness of the course, indicating the junior officers have not had any formalized training since their pass out from the training depot some four years ago.

He thus indicated the course outline will help retrain the junior officers on some of the practical issues confronting them on the fields, noting that it is designed to address lapses in the service.

The 166 trainee officers will be taken through various courses including training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), C.I 76, and Training on service instructions.

The rest are Arms and Ammunition, Search Warrants, Rights of Defendants, Appeals, Use of Force by the Police, Standing Orders of the Service among several others.
