50 electricians to benefit from an EC-USAID Sponsored electrification training program

To help avert the incessant electrical fire outbreaks witnessed in the country in recent years, the Energy Commission (EC) together with its partners USAID has over the weekend organized a public sensitization for electricians in the Northern part of Ghana.

The 50 participants consisting of 40 males and 10 females drawn from Northern, Savanna and Upper East regions, will benefit from a six (6) weeks intensive electrification training which qualifies them to be certified by the commission.

In an interview with FiilaNews, the Northern Regional Programmes Officer at the Energy Commission Mr. Bukari John Nilimor noted that the EC-USAID initiative is aimed at certifying electricians to enable them carry out their duties professionally to help reduce outbreaks caused by shoddy work.

He noted that at the end, these certified electricians can serve their communities with the knowledge to be acquired to help avert electrical fires mostly caused by the use of substandard materials.

Mr. John Nilimor further added that the certification program will go a long way to reduce the poverty levels of rural dwellers who usually pay more for the services of certified electricians their communities lack.

On his part one of the Coordinators of the training who also doubles as a tutor at Dabokpa Technical Institute, Mr Edem Agbenenu has assured learners that they are at the right place for their certification training.

He noted that trainees will learn several task including basic conductor principles, how to interpret guidelines on electrical wiring and how to identify cable and cable sizes for efficient wiring practices in the discharge of their work.

He meanwhile challenged the women electricians to do better than their male counterparts at the end of the training .
